In this lively, interactive program national parenting expert
Paula Statman will discuss how to keep children safe while at the same
time helping them become self-reliant. “Starting in preschool you want
to avoid the common trap of over protecting your child,” says Statman,
author of Raising Careful, Confident Kids in a Crazy World. “Kids don’t
grow when they are over-protected and they grow up too fast if they
aren’t protected enough.” Statman recommends that parents use “the
5P’s”, an approach that gauges how much responsibility and freedom
children can handle successfully.
Paula is a regular guest on national media, including Oprah and the Today Show and has been interviewed for over 200 radio shows and over 100 television and news programs. In addition to speaking, Paula directs the KidWISE Institute in Oakland, California, a national organization that trains parents and professionals who serve children.
Lastly, she is an award-winning author and has written three books:
• Life on a Balance Beam: It Helps If You Don't Look Down!
• On the Safe Side: Teach Your Child to be Safe, Strong, and Street-Smart
• Raising Careful, Confident Kids in a Crazy World
